Happy Day

We celebrated Sylvia's second birthday by having family over for cupcakes and presents. Sylvia woke up on her birthday saying "happy day, happy day."

2 Year Pictures

Sylvia and I enjoyed the beautiful weather this morning and headed out to Kiwanis Park. I was thankful for the sunshine and opportunity to take Sylvia's two year old pictures myself. I figured we might be dealing with snow around her birthday and be head to Sears for pictures



Sylvia cooperated for the most part. I've learned that I have to take her pictures somewhere where she can't get away from me. Last time I stood her on a stool that she couldn't get off of. This time I stood her on a ledge. We're waiting for two more molars to pop through and Sylvia is very drooly right now. I had to wipe her face off between every shot. I also wiped the mulch and dirt off her hands numerous.


She screeched when she was all done as you can see from the picture below.

Birthday Party

Sylvia is turning two. Saturday evening we had a bus themed party with her friend, Henry who shares her birthday.

The kids each decorated their own party hat and did a bus coloring sheet while Dan cooked the burgers and hotdogs.


Sylvia and Henry each invited a couple of friends. Taking a group picture was not the most productive activity of the evening.


Each of the kids got to "pin" their picture on a school bus drawn by my wonderful husband.


Sylvia and Henry are getting the hang of opening gifts.

Linda made a tutu for Sylvia and I made a hooded towel for Henry.


After asking a friend for advice, a practice frosting job, two attempted homemade cakes, two more box cakes...this is what we got. I'm very happy with how the final product turned out.

Red Beans and Rice

Sylvia got an early birthday present from her great aunt Sarah. She loves the new apron. I'm hoping she'll be able to start cooking us dinner if she helps out in the kitchen enough.

Halloween

My little lion. Sylvia really liked her costume. We practiced saying "roar" and everything.

We invited the grandparents over before trick-or-treating for some chili and a photo shoot.

Sylvia liked carrying her pumpkin around and pushing the doorbells. By the end of our block, she was a little tired of walking so Dan and I took turns carrying her between houses. We also took turns feeding her goldfish crackers to help keep her happy. Our neighborhood does not have a lot of trick-or-treaters so Sylvia got a quite a bit of candy at each house we went to. She quickly got the hang of grabbing the candy out of the bowl although she forgot how to roar or say thank you for the evening. The only words we heard were "more snack."

So far Sylvia has enjoyed taking her candy in and out of her plastic pumpkin. She currently has a little more motivation to go pee-pee in the potty (which she had taken a break from doing).

Preparing for Halloween

We picked out pumpkins a few days ago and Sylvia was excited to have "big pump" at our house. She liked watching daddy "cut" the pumpkin and got right in there herself and dug out the pumpkin goo.


We let her "color" on one of her little pumpkins since daddy was drawing on his before carving it.

Sylvia and Henry enjoyed going to playgroup this week. They were each given a crayons and a Halloween coloring book from a friend. Henry loved being dressed up as a bumblebee, although you can't tell from this picture.

Before trick-or-treating tonight, I did a pumpkin craft with Sylvia. She glued pumpkin seeds onto her pumpkin picture. Mommy made glue dots while Sylvia stuck the pumpkin seeds on.

Fall Leaves

Sylvia and I had been spending lots of time outside after nap until this rain started. She loves being outside and can usually find enough things to entertain herself so I can actually get some work done. I raked the lawn one day while she played with rocks and swept the driveway. The next day I got the lawn mowed while she did sidewalk chalk, played with rocks again, did some raking, and jumped in leaves. Either this little girl is going to be disappointed when we start spending more time inside or Dan and I are going to be spending more time outside this winter than we're used to.
