I Got My First Hug at Mercy Hospital
Sylvia has always loved wearing her "hospital shirt." The other day, she found out that Eric also had one and she was very exicted. So, I dressed both kids up in their shirts for a picture op. I had to inform Sylvia that it would be the last time she could wear her shirt because it is getting too small. We had great experiences at Mercy with both of our children and are thankful for the talented doctors and nurses who work there.
Spring Break Demolition
We spent as much time as possible enjoying the beautiful weather outside over spring break. Entertainment was provided by the backhoes and bobcats tearing down the houses on either side of us. Sylvia found our two play hardhats for her and Eric and took them outside while we played.

Sylvia got a hand-me-down big wheel from her cousin, Katie, last fall. We saved it until she was potty trained and that day is finally here. We've taken a few (very slow) trips around the block. She likes to stop and ask lots of questions as well as gather leaves and things to put in the seat container.
Someday soon he'll be able to keep up with big sister.

DQ
All this warm weather has me in the mood for some DQ. We took the kids out this week and let Eric try ice cream for the first time. Needless to say, he enjoyed it very much.

Dinner Plans
Mommy - "Sylvia, what should we have for dinner tonight?"
Sylvia - "Quesadillas with peanut butter and jelly."
Mommy - "I don't think we'll have that for dinner tonight. You just ate that yesterday. That was a good suggestion though."
Sylvia - "Mommy, you can decide what to have for dinner because you're the adult."

Room with a View
We awoke this morning to the sound of a backhoe demolishing our neighbor's house. The house on the other side came down yesterday so we weren't surprised although a man from the city informed me this morning that the crew wasn't supposed to start before 7:00. While watching out her window, Sylvia said, "When I used to be a baby I called the treads wheels." She's so much more educated now :)
Diaper changes have been difficult for awhile now with Eric but they are completely impossible today. I'm sure he's thinking, "Why lay down and cooperate with mommy and daddy when there's a giant dump truck out my window." Sylvia calls it the ABCD truck. Eric is becoming quite the climber.
I love that they are both up on their tip toes to see.
Diaper changes have been difficult for awhile now with Eric but they are completely impossible today. I'm sure he's thinking, "Why lay down and cooperate with mommy and daddy when there's a giant dump truck out my window." Sylvia calls it the ABCD truck. Eric is becoming quite the climber.
I love that they are both up on their tip toes to see.
Cousin Raymond's 1st Birthday
Sunday morning, Sylvia helped me wrap a gift and asked if we were taking it to Raymond's birthday party. I had planned to send it along with my parents but realized there wasn't any reason we couldn't just go along. So, I asked my parents if we could join them and quickly packed when we got home from church. Sylvia was so excited!
Sylvia loves it when her older cousins read to her.
These two couldn't wait for breakfast from McDonalds to arrive.
Sylvia loves to draw and Eric is always on the move.
Raymond didn't seem to mind that Eric was taking a few of his cheerios.
Playing with the blocks that Dan made for Evan when he was little.
Wii bowling. It took some practice, but Sylvia got the hang of it.
It's going to be a lot of fun for Eric to have a cousin just one week younger than him.
Eric wasn't too interested in the gift opening. Yes, that is Bart Simpson on his shirt. I couldn't pass it up.
Playing around with Zander and getting some nice snuggles.
Raymond was born on Pi Day so he got a birthday cake that looked like a pie.
This is what it's like to open presents with 4 siblings and a couple of cousins around.

1 Year Old Erickson
Erickson James Broffitt turned 1 last Sunday, March 6. At breakfast, he enjoyed trying pancakes for the first time. My friend, Emily, sent a couple of gifts that we didn't get openend at his party so he had a few presents to open on his actual birthday. Once again, Sylvia enjoyed helping. Eric now has his own toolbelt with tool board books, and an "fun"pod.

Eric enjoyed playing with his new gifts the next day since he wasn't too awake by the end of his party. Here he's playing with his new gears and "carrying" a duplo around in his mouth. He has so many teeth coming in right now and there is constantly something in his mouth.
I took Sylvia to Dollar Tree to pick out a balloon for Eric's birthday. She tied it to his bouncer for him and he is still enjoying playing with it a week later.

Erickson's First Birthday Party
My baby's first birthday has come and gone and I still haven't posted pictures. We had a fun family birthday the evening before Eric's actual birthday. Homemade macaroni and cheese for dinner followed by a yummy carrot cake. Eric ran his fingers through the frosting quite a few times before finally picking up the whole piece and stuffing it in his mouth.
The party started at 5:30 and Erickson usually goes to bed at 6:30 so he was getting a little sleepy by the end of opening presents. Sylvia was eager to help him "start" each present. He got a whale bath toy from Aunt Ginny, a cute whale outfit from Bill, Becky, Katie & Ben, musical gears from Nana & Papa, Duplos and and Iowa shirt from Grandma & Grandpa, and a dump truck from Mommy & Daddy, and a big orange ball from Sylvia. She told me they could share it in the backyard this summer.

Children's Museum
Sylvia and Eric visited the children's museum with some friends last week while I was at work. Before dropping them off, Sylvia said, "I want you to go to the museum with us." Unfortunately, I couldn't take the morning off so I decided to head back to the museum with them after naps. I had so much fun watching both of them play. It makes me look forward to the end of the school year when I will officially become a stay at home mom!
Eric enjoyed pushing the cart around but also got his pants quite dirty while doing plenty of crawling in the grocery store. Sylvia was able to go shopping for specific items and liked working the cash register.
We haven't been to the children's museum too often, but we spent more time in the doctor's office and ambulance than we ever have before. Sylvia has been playing doctor and vetranarian on a daily basis. She wanted to ride in the ambulance and she loved getting pretend x-rays taken and looking at the sample x-ray slides. Eric immediately knew what to do with a steering wheel.
Both kids tried out the airplanes. I love that Eric is getting old enough for them to play together some. Sylvia could use the foot petals to make the propeller go on the little airplanes. Eric had more fun using his hands to turn them around.
The farm has always been my favorite area of the children's museum. This was Eric's first time at the museum and he loved crawling through the tunnels...something Sylvia did not do at this age. There's a new fishing for letters area that Sylvia loved. She wanted to find letters to spell our names. It is so fun to watch her learn new things each day and to see her excitement for letters and reading.
When the museum closed, we headed over to see what was going on at the ice rink. Sylvia asked, "Why they aren't wearing helmets?" We've only seen hockey before and there were girls doing ice skating this time. Dan joined us and we finished the night out with a family dinner at Bennigans. It really was a perfect afternoon and evening. I love my family so much!!!
