Niabi Zoo

Last Friday morning we headed to the Niabi Zoo with Linda, Henry, and Calvin. Apart from needing constant toy rotations, the kids did well in the car.

Our tour of the zoo started with hearing this sound from the fish pond. We had no idea what it was at first. I don't know how I lived to be 29 without knowing that monkeys could make these sounds.


I don't know how much fish food the fish actually got with the geese hovering above the. I did see a few cheerios get consumed though.

Unfortunately all of the wallabies were sleeping but we got to watch an emu eat grass.

Sylvia had mixed feelings about the lorikeets after one landed on her back as you can see from this picture.

She much preferred to just look at them.

We weren't certain we would ride the carousel but once Sylvia spotted it she wouldn't stop pointing and saying "that" over and over again.

Sylvia has chosen the rooster that last two times she has ridden a carousel.

The petting zoo was a favorite once the kids learned the goats weren't going to eat them. Henry kept is cool while the goats licked his hand.


Sylvia giggled and squirmed the whole time.

I think they were both done by this point and ready for naps on the way home in the car.

Fly

I just found a video I hadn't posted yet. I feel a little bad...but I still think it's funny.

Cousin Katie

Sylvia enjoyed the company of her cousin Katie for a few days during the last couple of weeks. It was fun to see how well they played together for being 5 years apart. Sylvia loved copying Katie and Katie was very patient with Sylvia.

The two liked reading and giggling in our "fort."



Our "new" Fisher Price farm (that I found at Crowded Closet for $4.50) was also a big hit with both girls.


One of Katie's favorite activities was craft time which Sylvia also enjoyed. We did some coloring and also put together the little beads that you iron to finish.


This was probably one of my favorite activities to watch.


Sylvia was sad to see Katie go and even asked for her after a nap the other day.

Mini Me

A couple months ago my mom brought over a few boxes of clothing...that used to be mine. It was so fun to go through and remember some of my old clothes, pick out things for Sylvia to wear, and make a box to take to Goodwill! I can't believe some of the things I wore...especially as I got older. No wonder I got made fun of some in elementary school. Anyway, enjoy a few pictures of Sylvia wearing some oldies but goodies.

Lower City Park

We took Sylvia to the rides in Lower City Park for the first time this summer. I've been holding out since we live so close and often take walks through the park. I was afraid that once she knew they were there it would be difficult to just go for a walk. I haven't tested it to see yet but I know she was not happy with me when we walked by the ducks after stopping to feed them on our previous walk.

The evening started with a ride on the carousel and train since we could do those with her. We weren't sure how she would do on the fish all by herself but she thoroughly enjoyed it. I think we'll be planning a trip to Adventureland next summer.


We finished the night off by going out for ice cream and Dairy Queen. Sylvia got her own dish for the first time.
