Meeting the Family

After having the opportunity to nurse Drake, we were moved down to our postpardom room where we started calling our families to announce his arrival. Our parents came to visit shortly after with Sylvia and Erickson. We made sure both kids had a little mommy time. Eric was very intersted in all the buttons, etc. in the hospital room.
Sylvia and Eric enjoyed frequent trips to the snack room which was right across the hall from my room. They both got treats right after meeting Drake.
The grandparents got some snuggle time in during a few visits. They were also very helpful keeping track of the kids for us.

Sylvia loved getting a chance to sit in the "fancy bed" and hold Drake.

Sylvia and Dan took a trip to Build-A-Bear on Saturday where Sylvia got to make a gift for Drake. She needed a little help choosing a "boy" animal and not Hello Kitty but it turned out very cute. She named him Kyle.

Introducing Drake William Broffitt

Dan and I arrived at the hospital shortly after 5:00am on December 9th. Sylvia and Erickson spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa's so we could go out to dinner and get a good night's sleep. During dinner we discussed baby names. We weren't yet decided on a girl's name or a boy's middle name. Here's one last pregnant shot taken early Friday morning.
After meeting all the hospital folks and being prepped for surgery we waited around for surgery time. Dr. Wenzel asked before delivering if I thought it was a boy or a girl, and I said I would be more surprised if it was a girl. From what I understand, surgery went well although Dr. Wenzel did have to make a bigger incision due to scar tissue. It took a little longer than our previous two c-sections but we soon go to meet our new little boy. we were almost certain his first name would be Drake but we hadn't decided between our two middle names. He cried more than Sylvia and Eric.
Dr. Loeb brought him up for me to see right away before checking him out. He scored a 10 on his APGAR, weighed in at 9 pounds, 9.5 ounces and was 21 inches long. Dan stayed with me as they finished up surgery and we got to enjoy our little boy.

Headed Home

We all headed home from the hospital on Tuesday morning. It was wonderful to get back to my own house, although I do miss the hospital bed. Erickson (and Sylvia) have been doing great since we've been home.

Here we are 28 months ago with Sylvia.

Erickson James Broffitt - Day 1

We arrived at the hospital shortly after 8:00am on Saturday. They monitered the baby and preped me for surgery, etc. If you can't tell from the look on my face...we were very excited to meet the newest addition to our family.

At 10:06, Erickson James was born via c-section. Dr. Wenzel delivered him and Dr. Pentico was there to take care of him right away. He weighed almost exactly one pound less than his big sister and was 21 inches, 1 inch shorter than Sylvia.

Dr. Wenzel commented on how much hair he had and said he had big shoulders as she delivered him. She later told me that she thought he looked like a boy but didn't say anything until she knew he was. He didn't cry much at all in the delivery room.

After Dr. Pentico checked him out more thouroughly, Dan brought him up for me to see.

Dan took him back to our labor room and I joined them shortly after and got to nurse him. About an hour later, Erickson headed to the nursery for a bath, etc. and we called our family to announce his arrival.

Not too much later and we were all moved to our postpartum room. Daddy enjoyed some snuggles from our alert little boy.

There is nothing better than holding a brand new baby in your arms.

Sylvia spent the morning with my parents and went to swimming lessons. She got to eat lunch with all four grandparents. Dan's parents stayed with her during her nap and then brought her up to meet Erickson. My parents also came up. Although Sylvia did not like the hospital room and all the equiptment mommy was hooked up to, she immediately wanted to see Erickson and hold him.

She is a proud big sister.

Grandpa, Grandma, Nana and Papa also like him a lot.

the last of the hospital pictures

Sylvia spent a few days in the NICU while in the hospital. They monitored her breathing, heart rate, and blood oxygen level while she received her antibiotics. Once her breathing slowed down and she no longer had a fever she was able to return to our room with only an IV. She didn't enjoy the IV and made it difficult for the nurses by dislodging her IV site a few times. This meant she had to get her antibiotics via shots a few times which she did not enjoy at all.

Sylvia's cousins, Katie and Ben, came to visit during our extended stay in the hospital.

Sylvia is one week old in this picture. She is also wearing non-hospital clothes for the first time!

This is our first family picture where all three of us are dressed. We were very excited to be headed home.

Sylvia didn't like getting into her carseat but she enjoyed the short car ride home.
